Congratulations to the kids on this page, you are here because you have accomplished something very special, and we want to recognize you for  doing so well!  Parents, help us in recognizing these kids.  If you know of a child in NRRC athletics who should be recognized, please let us know.  Let's try to fill up this page - Thank You!!

I just wanted to share some exciting news and positive exposure that took place over the weekend for North Roanoke Recreation Club, especially cheerleading!

On Saturday, October 8, 2011 the NRRC Little League Chargers Cheerleaders participated in the Cheer for a Cure 100 event that took place at PH to raise money for Susan G Komen and Breast Cancer Awareness.  The squad performed a Breast Cancer Battle themed routine, and scored the highest overall in the recreation division.  As the coach of this team, I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication exhibited by my girls this year and wanted to share what a great representation the girls were at this event as the only Roanoke County team present.  I received numerous compliments on how creative our routine was, as well as how nice our uniforms were, and how well put together our team was.  I thought each of you would appreciate this feedback as well and thought it may be possible to post something on the website bragging on this accomplishment!

 Thanks,
Stephanie English

Hello,

I was at all of the games of the Sub-district tournament held at Walrond Park and wanted to offer some of the photos for your website for you to display.  My son played for the Vinton National team, but I took pictures of all of the teams, including the North Roanoke team.

You guys did an amazing job of hosting the tournament and everyone that I spoke with agreed.

You can see the photos I took at www.dannycruffphotography.com or on my Facebook page (search Danny Cruff Photography).  If you'd like any of the photos, please let me know which ones you'd like and I will email them to you for the website.

Thanks!

I just want to tell you how pleased the Masons Cove parents are (as well as the parents from opposing teams, too, apparently) with the umpires from North Roanoke.  For the past few games we’ve had at Whispering Pines, you folks have been sending umpires from North Roanoke, and we couldn’t be more impressed.

These fellows are professional, courteous, friendly, and extremely helpful to both teams’ coaches and players.  We haven’t had one yet that was anything other than what I have just described.

These guys have really put the “fun” back in baseball for our boys.

Thank you again,

Valerie Tensen

As I'm sure you are all aware, Northside has three spring sports teams which have qualified for the state tournament along with numerous individuals in track and field.  Softball, baseball and girls soccer will all be playing for regional titles tonight and will be playing in their respective AA State Championship tournaments next week.  Northside is the only school in the Blue Ridge District with teams still playing....and we have three!

This success, I feel, is a direct result of the efforts of many of our current and former board members.  Ranny Grubb has done a fantastic job of building an incredible softball program in North County.  Kenny Furrow's tireless efforts as the Girls Soccer Director have paid off with Northside's first-ever girls soccer state championship birth.  The efforts of former baseball director Scott Stanley and Scott Fisher have helped make the NMS & NHS baseball program a powerhouse.

I send this e-mail with the hopes that it will inspire each of us to continue to make every effort to help build the NRRC programs so that the current and future athletes in North Roanoke may enjoy the thrilling experiences of competing at the state level during their high school careers.  We can make a difference....if we put forth the effort.  Thank you again for all you do for NRRC.  I hope to see you supporting one of the Vikings teams tonight or next week.

David Linden

Many of the players on this year's team started playing football in the NRRC program as youngsters.  Northside High has been a big supporter of the recreation club program throughout the years.

This is a very exciting time for the students, faculty and staff at Northside as well as the North Roanoke community.  There was a tremendous turnout at Saturday's game to show its support for these student/athletes and to recognize the wonderful season they have had.

Just wanted to put out a way to go to the NMS. Girls Soccer team.  They ended the season with 9-1-2 record which I am told was the best in our district, with only 7 goals allowed against our team and 43 goals scored for us.

Thanks to Kenny Furrow for stepping up these past years in this program as well as all he does for the NRRC program.  To Helen Foster for her years of service for NMS. soccer.  To Mike Koeneman for his help as well.

This years team was a great group of ladies of which most have played at least 3-4 years for NRRC sometimes against each other but the basic skills and good sportsmanship was learned thru the great program that is NRRC.  We have ten 8th graders which I feel will make a great addition to the NHS. team next year.

Here are the team members * denotes 8th grader:

Northside Viking's Baseball

I want to congratulate to Northside Viking baseball team for getting to not one but two final fours in a row and every senior who played on this team played for NRRC.

This is how a HS sports team is started. It starts with the 6-7 yr old kids learning how to play and have fun doing it. It progresses through the Dixie Minors and Majors then Dixie Boys. The seniors on this team played together for 11-12 years and will have life-long friendships to go along with the memories of being the best baseball team in NHS history.

To Josh Fleahman, Andrew Stover, Richard Crozier, Jacob Ridgeway, Tyler Deacon, Zack Hurt, Morgan Caldwell, Lefty Flora and Chris Ballard it was exciting and fun to watch. Again it all started with T-ball with the NRRC. To all the coaches who coached this group from T-ball through High School—GREAT JOB!!

Thank you, David Stover

My daughter Victoria recently completed her softball season, and I wanted to take this opportunity to say how pleased my wife and I were with her coach, Denny McCarthy.

Our daughters have participated with several North Roanoke County athletic teams (soccer, basketball and softball) and have been fortunate to have a number of excellent coaches (Kenny Furrow and Scott Altizer, just to name a few), but Denny was truly outstanding.  At every practice and game I watched (which was just about all of them), he took every opportunity to teach fundamentals, encourage sportsmanship, and create fun for the girls.

I did not know Denny prior to this spring, so this is not a letter from "one of his buddies."  I just want your office to know how appreciative we are for our daughter to have worked with such a gifted coach.  Please forward this information to anyone else (Scott Fisher, perhaps?) who would be interested in hearing this.

Sincerely,    Vic Brancati
