NRRC Board Members,

Just wanted to let you know that the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors today approved the replacement of the entire lighting system at Walrond Park, including baseball fields 1 & 2 along with the football field.  They will be reconfiguring the fence on W2 to allow for 225' fence for O-Zone play. The Musco lighting package they approved is fantastic and should be installed before the start of the upcoming baseball season.

An early Christmas present for NRRC!

Board of Supervisors Members, Roanoke County:

Roanoke Co. Parks & Rec will soon be providing you with a request to replace the lighting system at Walrond Park.  As you are probably aware, two of the light poles at this facility were recently condemned and removed due to safety issues.  The remaining lighting system is not adequate for the football and baseball fields.

For many years, Walrond Park has been the premier sports recreation facility for football and baseball in North County.  Through the years, North Roanoke Rec Club has made many improvements to the facility, including the installation of batting cages, scoreboards, press boxes, etc.  NRRC takes great pride in Walrond Park and we truly appreciate the opportunity to conduct the majority of our games at such a nice facility.  NRRC has recently hosted the inaugural Dixie Youth Baseball O-Zone state championship and numerous other DYB District and Sub-State events at Walrond Park.

NRRC has proven to be the breeding ground for young athletes in North County.  Much of the success which Northside HS is currently having is directly related to the efforts of our rec club program.  Many of the players from both our state championship football and softball teams were at one time NRRC participants.  Our rec club basketball and baseball programs have also helped provide the fundamental skills necessary for the NMS and NHS teams to be successful.

While I realize you are facing difficult budget decisions during these tough economic conditions, I implore you to please consider approving the entire lighting package at this facility, including baseball fields #1 and #2 along with the football field.  Musco lighting systems has provided a wonderful proposal which would ensure that our rec club program would have the necessary fields available to continue providing these sports programs well into the foreseeable future.

When presented with the proposed lighting request, I truly hope you will be able to approve it.  Our more than 1,500 current participants and the future success of NRRC and ultimately the NHS football and baseball programs are depending on your vote.

If you have any questions or if I can provide any information about our rec club program, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
David Linden

The cost for each person that goes thru this is 22.50 each.  At this point the NRRC is paying this fee. Each check is good for 24 months and any sport that person would coach.
